What do I think?
I recently had the opportunity to trial the Mindray Vetus 80, and it was a very good experience. Priced in the £20-30K + VAT range with one probe, this is a cart-based system, and as cart machines go, that puts it at a reasonable entry point for the category.
A Particularly Nice Feature
One thing that genuinely impressed me: saving an image or cineloop does not cause image quality to drop, nor does it require you to freeze first. That sounds like a small detail, but in practice it makes the scanning workflow much smoother and means you never miss a moment while trying to capture it.
Practicalities
The Vetus 80 is fairly easily wheeled around the clinic, scoring 4/5 for robustness and 3/5 for portability — the latter reflecting that this is a cart system rather than a laptop-style portable. The magnetic dust covers for the probe sockets are a thoughtful, practical touch, keeping animal hair and debris out of the connectors.
