What do I think?
This machine is brilliant. For the cost on paper – £6960 for the basic machine, including a microconvex probe the image quality is outstanding.
On top of this, the Colour Doppler is better than any other machine I have tried in this price range – the computing power can maintain a great frame rate while Doppler is on – meaning the image on the screen is real-time and crisp.
I used this machine for a couple of months on my peripatetic travels and am convinced I picked up on subtle changes I wouldn’t have seen with other machines.
There are a couple of downsides, however. The buttons, although designed to be wiped clean extremely easily in practice (so ideal for a large practice – you know the type where someone always puts oil on the non-oil microscope lens, or someone doesn’t clean the ultrasound machine properly after they use it) are difficult to press, and occasionally for some functions, you need to press two buttons at once where it becomes more difficult.
I did not label my images as thoroughly as I usually would because of this difficulty. The other challenges are that the probe is tricky to attach, but you’ll soon get the knack for that, and the start-up time is a bit slower than the average machine, but I really am nit-picking here!
Summary
In summary, this is a really high scoring machine.
I can’t really believe the price it’s selling at because the image quality is just amazing, and the Colour Doppler is really crisp.
Pros:
- Excellent image quality
- Extremely good colour Doppler
- Easily wiped clean
Cons:
- Buttons are a little tricky to press
- Probe slightly difficult to attach correctly
- Slow start up time
