Sonoscape E2V Review

E2v machine review by FOVU

What the manufacturers say:

Our most popular scanner is the Sonoscape E2V. This is a colour doppler machine that provides high quality images suitable for high detail small animal abdominal and cardio
work.

We have supplied over 250 E2V and S2V (the machine’s predecessor) to UK veterinary
practices since the start of 2014.

What do I think?

I have had use of this scanner for a couple of months and used it in a few cases as well as on Pippi and overall I am pleased by the image you get with this machine. This machine is a step up from the E1V in that it does have Doppler capability it is compatible with microconvex, linear probes and phased array probes. This makes it ideal for the first opinion small animal practice who need a machine which can cover abdomen and basic cardiac scanning.

I scanned with the microconvex C613 probe (4-13MHz) and the linear L741 (4-6MHz).  Although the linear probe gives great images, the 4.5cm footprint does make maneuverability around a small cat abdomen a little tricky. I used the microconvex probe was used in a few dogs and cardiac cases and it held up well.

As with all Sonoscape machines the keyboard is laid out logically and it is easy to find and use frequency, depth, overall gain, time gain compensation and focal zone buttons and they are well labelled. Pre-sets are easy to create for each user if required. Battery life is about an hour and half and has a mains attachment. Exporting images onto USB is very straightforward, and the machine announces once it has competed the export which is useful. The machine is not particularly built for robustness, but feels very sturdy, and is not too heavy to carry around the practice.

Summary

This is a great basic ultrasound machine and with good image quality. Don’t get this machine if your main interest is cardiology, but do get this if you want a good value, all round machine for general practice.

Pros:

  • Good image quality
  • Easy to use
  • Transfer to USB easy
  • Has Doppler capability

Cons:

  • No phased array probe available
